Alt Solar is an amalgamation of 2 companies, HPL Computers and Drago print solutions. We amalgamated to meet the demand of solar system inquiries and have been installing Solar systems for the last 6 years
In 2020 we made the decision to amalgamate in to one Company and start concentrating on solar installations and distributions. We decided all Systems will be installed by us so that there can be no complications. Let’s face it, if you order a Kit online it’s still useless unless you have the know how on Solar system installations or get an expensive electrician to install it at a premium price. We decided to include all installation cost of each system within a 60km radius of Cape Town area.
As time goes on, electricity is only going to get more expensive, so the sooner that one can start investing in a solar system the better for your future.
Not only will it save you money in the long run but we will assist and give you honest advice to eventually become self-reliant and cut the in dependency cord from the grid. Giving you peace of mind and the freedom you deserve.
SERVICES
We design and supply solar photovoltaic solutions for residential and commercial customers. All Systems will be installed by our team and installation is normally included unless it’s a custom designed system.
PRODUCTS
Since every Watt of power generated via the sun comes with a price tag, solar electricity is not an area where sub-standard equipment can be utilized. We use only industry-leading panels, controllers, LiFePo4 batteries and inverters to ensure that every possible Watt of power is extracted from your system.
On average Panels can produce more than 80% of their rated power even after 25years of use. That is a loss of power of less than 0.78% per year. This is due to the natural degradation of panels and is the worst case scenario.
We try and only install LiFePo4 Batteries due to their outstanding reliability and safe technology. But if you are on a budget we can assist you with deep cycle gel batteries but these we avoid at all cost. Peny for peny the LiFePo4 batteries are worth the 30% extra cost as these batteries are designed to last a minimum of 4000 cycles. That’s 1 cycle a day so a life expectancy of the average lifepo4 battery of 11 years at 80% drain on a daily basis. Compare that to a Gel battery that can only be drained to 50% and a cycle life of average 300-500 cycles you will see why we don’t do gel or other deep cycle batteries.
In Simple terms a 50Amp and hour LiFePo4 battery is equivalent to a 120Amp an hour Gel battery. So please ask us if you don’t understand the term used by the average installer.

We mainly install Hybrid off-grid systems and try and avoid systems that can feed back on to the grid due to the logistics in government and local councils slowing down the process and charging exorbitant fees for extra meters and logistical cost. We want to help you become self-reliant and break free of the grid but can always fall back on to the grid if needed. Let’s say if it rains for a week in a row and the batteries can’t be charged via solar. A small generator can also be used for this but is only used on very rare occasions.
All our systems will be installed with the necessary safety futures like disconnect switches and Fuses as per the regulation. If we come and work on a pre-existing system and it does not have these safety measures we will have to install all these safety measures before any work can be done on your existing systems. This is part of our Terms and Conditions. For example we will not add another battery to your system unless a battery disconnect switch with an adequate fuse is installed in-between the Battery and the inverter. A lot of installers skip this necessary safety step due to the cost involved.
HOW WE WORK
Alt Solar is part of the growing industry of e-commerce. We don't have any physical stores and operate primarily on-line. We don’t carry large amount of stock on hand due to limited storage space.
All our products are supplied by various importers across the Country. Sometimes we have to get stock from Gauteng and Port Elizabeth so there can be a delay in delivery. Our products are primarily shipped from our supplier warehouses in Randburg and/or Cape Town, with some of our inverters and batteries being shipped from Midrand and Port Elizabeth
COLLECTIONS
We don’t allow collections of our system at our premises. We will come and install the systems at your premises as this is all included in the price.
Small items are shipped via a courier company.
